PGL
I just got back from watching PGL and thought it was brilliant!
My favourite was Adlin Aman Ramli as Sultan Mahmud. Such casualness even while in character. And he earned extra brownie points when he did a lil shimmy-shimmy on stage.
Stephen Rahman-Hughes paid no justice to the character of Hang Tuah. Lets just say he should be lucky for his pretty face. Like hello, silat is probably one of Tuah's forte. He made it look like tarian inang. Even Ipeng could have done it better. Pfft.
Tiara adalah idola! Some may discount her credibility because she's a husband stealer. Oh come on. Whatever she does behind the curtains has little to no bearings on her professional career. She was hot! She rocked that stage.
The dancers were amazing. They simply serve as testament that traditional Malay-Indo dance choreography is more entertaining to the eye than your standard Broadway/West End dance routine. All the pas de bourrée and pirouettes can be pretty boring. Though I could be biased, as PGL is probably the only one of its kind that I've seen and I've got nothing to compare it with.
And the highly anticipated magical illusions - let's just say that my eyes were quicker than their hands instead.
But mad props to props though!
I am patriotic and am in true spirits of 'dasar pandang ke timur' these days, which is why I have turned a blind eye to all the 50 something flaws that I saw on stage today. =)
